Show evidence, says PM on graft in S'wak
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said those with evidence of corruption in Sarawak should adduce evidence.
"If you can give evidence, I will ask (the authorities to act)," Mahathir told a press conference today.
He said this when asked if his administration would probe corruption regarding the Sarawakian government.
In an exclusive report, Malaysiakini had revealed that Mahathir had received Sarawakian governor Taib Mahmud in Kuala Lumpur last Friday, shortly after assuming office.
This sparked heavy speculation that the ruling coalition in Sarawak may review its position in BN.
Taib had ruled Sarawak from 1981 and 2014 as chief minister - the longest-serving chief executive of Malaysian state ever.
His tenure was riddled with allegations of corruption, unbridled deforestation and that his family members had extensive business interests in government projects.
When asked about the meeting with Taib and whether political cooperation between Pakatan Harapan was in the offing, Mahathir replied:
"We have had nothing to do with the Sarawak government at this moment. We are very busy with the government of this country," he said.
When asked to respond to former Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan's allegation that there was ample evidence to take action against graft in Sarawak, Mahathir said he did not communicate with her.
"Ambiga says so, but you are telling me. Ambiga didn't tell me," he said
